BIO:
Rachel received a B.A. from the University of Oregon (2002) in Biology and History and an M.A. (2007) from Oregon State University in the History of Science. She received a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in History (2014) with a doctoral dissertation focusing on early modern apothecary and botanical gardens in Russia as significant sites of cultural and knowledge exchange between Russia and its neighbors. Her work illuminates the techniques by which knowledge of the natural world was produced, mediated and brokered in the early Russian Empire and explores Russia’s engagement in an increasingly global information network.
