BIO:
Laura Elias studied History and German philology in Berlin and Moscow. She graduated in 2010 from Berlin Humboldt University with a Master thesis titled "Hooligans in Moscow, 1900-1914". Since 2012 she has been a PhD student in Eastern European history at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Her PhD-project deals with visual representations of multiethnicity in late Imperial Russia. Her research focuses on the images of the Empire's indigenous population of Central Asia and the relationship between pictures and ethnographic knowledge in the age of spreading photography. For the academic year 2014/15 Laura received a “Doc.Mobility” scholarship from the Swiss National Science Foundation for a doctoral fellowship at the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University.
