BIO:
Hello! I teach Russian and digital history here at Harvard. While my appointment is in the History Department, my office is at the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies in CGIS South. This means that I am right across the street from two of my favorite locations on campus: the Fung Library (which, despite its name, is the home of a great Slavic collection as well as one of the best Slavic librarians in the country) and the Center for Geographic Analysis. I have been at work on an historical GIS of the Russian Empire for the last few years and am always excited to discuss space, place, maps, and mapping. When not consumed with the pleasures and pains of spatial analysis I write about the Black Sea slave trade, the evolution of the Russian wine industry, and the management of natural resources (including the production of knowledge pertaining to those natural resources!) in the 18th and 19th centuries. I do most all of this while drinking far too much coffee and dreaming of powder days at Alta.
