Conclusion!

Throughout the Tekfur Sarayi's existence, people in power were using the former palace as a visual representation of their own understanding of Istanbul. Thus, as Istanbul frequently changed hands, the hands which shaped the Tekfur Sarayi's symbolic purpose changed its place in the city's urban landscape. Whether it was functioning as a brothel or a palace, the building's sheer visual power forced it to always take on some sort of cultural importance. Even when the building was abandoned, its deterioration stood as a reflection of society at the time. Thus, this building, which is again being understood in a new light, has been a different type of Lieu De Memoire in each period of its existence. This makes it an excellent monument to study temporally, thus turning it into a lens with which to explore both, the ever-changing culture of Istanbul and the process of how a Lieu De Memoire evolves into being.

"Monuments and archaeological pieces serve as testimonies of man's greatness and establish a dialogue between civilizations showing the extent to which human beings are linked." - Vicente Fox, Former President of Mexico
